6 WEEKS! 4-26-09

Wow! We can hardly believe that we are, today exactly, '6 weeks pregnant'! It is just truly unbelievable! How amazing is it that this week (week 7), this little munchkin's 'brain cells are being generated at the rate of 100 cells per minute; his mouth and tongue are forming and his arm and leg buds are beginning to sprout into paddle-like appendages and to divide into hand, arm, and shoulder segments - and leg, knee and foot segments'... and much more! Wow! We have done bloodwork each week and every time the results have come back awesome! We're praising the Lord - even if the bloodwork results weren't coming back so great and high, though, we would still be praising Him! A week from tomorrow we will have our first ultrasound - hard to believe isn't it?

The last two weeks I have relished in some much needed time with the Lord - reflecting, praising, and praying. This may be hard for some to understand, but as much as my heart rejoices in this miracle, it has also mourned -- mourned for those that are still in the trenches of infertility... and for those, due to circumstances beyond their control, cannot even try for children even though they would love to have them. Our friend, Lana, has been on my heart a lot (please reference our blog homepage for their link, Chad and Lana Fisher, to read the latest updates). Last week I was crying out to our Gracious God on their behalf, broken over the suffering they are still enduring (joyfully and triumphantly I might add - bringing overwhelming glory to God in Mighty ways!). I battled with the feelings of guilt and unworthiness that we would now be receiving such a blessing, and yet Lana is in the midst of fighting for her life. But I believe God spoke something to me that impacted me greatly: 'Linsey, what if I want you to raise a Lana?' Oh God that would be the greatest honor! Lana is one of the most courageous warriors for her King that I know - believes in her God, who He is, with an all-out tenacious faith and she knows His character is unchangingly Good, Faithful, and True. Her hope is not in this world, but in Heaven where her citizenship is secure.
As you have heard us say so many times before, Brad and I want to raise a great warrior for the King, a light for the next generation and generations to come... We want to raise a Lana!
So we choose joy, we choose rejoicing, and we choose gratitude for the opportunity and responsibility our Father has placed in our lives. He has big plans... big plans!

I have also had to work through saying good-bye to an 'unsuspecting friend'. Below is a little poem I scratched down in my journal as I was talking with God. It is very unpolished and rough draft, but I'll share it nonetheless in case it could minister to anyone who has gone through long valleys of grieving:

Grief had become my friend,
though by no choice of mine.
He welcomed his way in
no matter where, no matter what time.

At first I refused him, I despised him at best;
but with each time he returned, he relented me without rest.

With successive disappointments
we became well acquainted, he and I.
He followed me like a shadow
he watched as each dream died.

But now this dark fellow must move on
the sorrow has come to an end,
Yet I find it hard to say good-bye
to my unsuspecting friend.

There is a real process of grieving one goes through with prolonged infertility. To those who are possibly following this blog, who are still in the throws of this trial, my heart goes out to you more than words can express. My heart throbs and aches as I vividly still feel and taste the heart sobs and disappointments. To you I will not say, as many would say to me after they ended up getting pregnant, "oh just wait, it will be your turn soon" or "look at me, if it happened to me, it can happen to you". I don't know if that is the Lord's plan for each of you are not. What I would say is seek the Giver of Life, more than His gifts, with everything you have; cling to His Truth, believe Truth, and speak Truth, even when the feelings are not there... and pray not that God would just end the trial and bring you a baby, but that He would be glorified in this trial and that He would show you all that He wants to show you and do all that He desires to do AMIDST this trial. He holds you in the palm of His hand, He loves you, and He will not let this go on one more second than is necessary. We must all come to the point of trusting our Sovereign God with HIS ways, His plans, and His desires... and know that He will do immeasurably more than we can ask for or imagine... whether that is with children or without. There are pages more that want to jump off of my heart and on to this blog, a book-worth actually ;) ... God gives us sufficient grace for each day - some days we have the grace to endure the day, and for some days the grace to enjoy the day... days of grace! not good days or bad days!
"Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite" Psalm 14:5

'The Truth is that contentment is not found in having everything we want, but in choosing to be satisfied with what God has already provided'

'Lord, may the things that matter most to You, matter most to me'

'Spend each day like you want to spend the rest of your life'

"God is good, and everything He does is good." Psalm 119:68

'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... it's about learning to dance in the rain'

"From the fullness of Your grace we have all received one blessing after another." John 1:16

"My soul waits in silence for God only; from Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken." Ps 62:1-2

WE'RE PREGNANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4-12-09

WOW! "Praise You Lord" is about the only thing we can get out of our mouths! We are in shock to say the least ;) Just truly overwhelmed with God's Grace and trying to take it all in... but it's just tough to even wrap our hearts and minds around right now. Wow! It is unbelievable to look back on the past few weeks and see how the Lord has directed everything... how we even got to do a fresh transfer, how we never crossed the threshold into the serious issues of hyperstimulation... and how He has allowed this time to be 'the' time, His time. He is faithful - regardless of whether this was successful or not - He is faithful. We do feel like we have experienced a miracle and we give the Giver of Life all the praise and glory for it! Another huge praise was that all of my levels (hcg, progesterone, etc) looked GREAT! Really great! We'll call tomorrow for the full report and more instructions and then probably go back in the end of this week to recheck the levels. It's just so amazing that the Lord allowed us to witness His creation (that precious perfect little embryo) with our own eyes, and literally watch it make its way up into the uterus and be deposited in just the right spot. And thank You Jesus that our little embryo loved it there and implanted. And praise You Lord that You even orchestrated this to let us find out on Easter... what a time to celebrate HIS Life, His resurrection and the new life we live in Christ... and to get to celebrate the new life He has blessed us with. We are overwhelmed. And, as it looks, we will get to literally celebrate the birth of this new life, when we celebrate the birth of our Savior (CHRISTMAS!!) We have seen such a mighty work throughout this process and cannot thank you all enough for your intercession. Your knees must truly be sore from all of the praying and praising you have done, many of you for years! Of course, if you are game, we would continue petitioning your prayers for the health of this little teeny tiny baby, for my health, and God's protection and purpose. We desire nothing less than to honor Him with this time. We know it is really tough for women to go through extensive infertility and in-vitro to then finally get pregnant and not be worried about losing the baby... but as we have confidently said so many times before in this process, we have committed to Trust God. Period. It can be SUCH a challenging thing, just as it has been so challenging to trust Him in the suffering, all the negative tests, the hundreds of 'what if windows', etc. But we truly want to rejoice in His Gift, and not allow worry and anxiety to completely overshadow the blessing. We would love your prayers on this. The only security we really have is in Who He Is... and He is Good, He is consistent, and He is love. We will honor Him in every way we can in this new chapter and trust that He will carry out HIS plan!
We love you all! Thank you so much!

Freeze Report! 4-7-09

Thank You Lord! We received a call from one of the embryologists yesterday and they were able to freeze 3 embryos! We are very grateful. Please PRAISE the Lord and rejoice with us! Our prayer from the beginning would be to have 4 embryos make it, no more than 5! And we had 4 (one was transferred Friday, as you all know, and then 3 were frozen)!!! It's a bit of a tough thing with the others not 'making it', but we trust that, as we were told, they would have no chance of survival, did not have enough cells, and that life was honored and respected. This will give us a chance, if this transfer is unsuccessful, to go back for another try without having to do the entire in-vitro process all over again. If this transfer is successful, this will give us an opportunity to try for another child down the road. We are very very grateful for our Gracious God's provision, protection, and His faithfulness to our heart cries on this specific part of the whole process. For now, we will just take one day at a time as we slowly ;) work our way to Sunday. Thank you for ALL of your prayers!!

Embryo Transfer Update! 4-3-09

Yay! Thank ya'll so much for ALL the prayers! (I just have to thank you every time I get on here b/c we really are SO grateful - 'thank you' just doesn't do it justice)! As you all know, we were able to do the transfer today at 11am. It went great! We had one perfect little embryo ready to go that was transferred! It is one of the most amazing experiences ever - EVER! Brad got to go back to the OR with us and be a part of everything! You get to see the embryologist on this screen drawing up your little embryo and getting it ready. Then you get to watch on the ultrasound as the doctor deposits your little embryo into your uterus! Wow! Thank You Lord for letting us be a part of this - our Creator is amazing!
We will get a 'freeze report' Monday afternoon - the embryologist will let us know how many actually were able to make it to the freezing stage and be frozen. We hope at least a couple will make it there! We have a good chance of that with the 4-5 that were doing so well, and one of those transferred today... We'll be joyful in hope and faithful in prayer!
You all are amazing! Your intercession has been unbelievable and pivotal to how all of this has gone.
They always have you do your bloodwork (for hcG and progesterone reflex) 2 weeks post egg retrieval, so that will fall on Easter Sunday. It would be an incredible time to celebrate new life as we celebrate the new life we live in our Resurrected Christ! As our nurse said this morning, "the next 9 days will feel like an eternity".
"Rejoice always. Again I say rejoice! Do not be anxious in anything, but in everything, with prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God, that transcends all understanding will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus." Phil 4:4-6 (He already knows for 'all the days ordained for me were written in Your Book before one of them came to be' Ps. 139)

We love you all! Thank you all for everything! There are many more details that go along with all of these posts but I just can't write pages ;) and to be quite honest, unless you have gone through this, it's just tough to explain some of the details and medical jargon - it's crazy stuff! We'll keep you posted =)

Getting ready for Embryo Transfer! 4-1-09

Hey there! Well... looks like we will get to do the transfer after all! Our IVF nurse called today and said that our embryos are looking great and we have 4-5 that are 'Gold Stars' =), grades 1-2 and they are perfect! We have ~5-6 others that are not doing as good and may not make it to freezing stage. Our prayer all along has been for 4-5 to make it and be able to transfer at some point or another (been praying specifically for 4 and pleading for no more than 5). In a woman's natural cycles (in trying to conceive), it is estimated that as many as 50% of the embryos do not implant and are flushed out (so fertilization occurs but the embryo does not continue to grow and implant resulting in a viable pregnancy). So the fact that the other embryos are not growing quite as well and thriving is tough but it is normal and expected - we pray with all our hearts for these 4-5 that have great potential to make it!
They have us down for Friday, a Day 5 Transfer, and will call tomorrow to let us know exactly when to come in, etc.
As of now, I am still looking great as far as the hyperstimulation (no major signs - thank You Lord!!!), but the risk is still there given the amount of follicles and estradiol levels. Our doctor, at this point, does recommend transferring just one embryo (the hyperstimulation can stil take affect ~ 48hrs - 9 days post retrieval; and the hcG hormome can maximize that effect; so if you were to get pregnant with more than 1 (twins or triplets)during this time, you are multiplying that effect big time) - So she feels it is more wise in this instance to try a single embryo transfer. (Usually it takes about 10 days for the hyperstimulation, if you encounter the excess fluid and issues that come with that, for it to calm back down - so we were thinking we might have to freeze all embryos that make it to freezing stage and come back for a freeze-thaw transfer (in the event of a frozen transfer, how many we transfer and how all of that goes could be a different story).

We trust her judgement. It's a bit tough b/c only doing one decreases your 'chances' of getting pregnant, period, and everyone under 35 pretty much always does 2... but you know, our God is so purposeful and faithful - He sees the whole picture- we want His plan and whatever, out of His loving-kindness and grace, He chooses... we are just grateful at the opportunity to even do a fresh transfer. We have to go through all the preparation to do a transfer, regardless, and my body is doing well (lining great, doing progesterone inj., etc) ...

So we, once again, petition your prayers for these embryos, for the transfer, for my body, for the doctors - and of course, we hope that this is the time the Lord has to bring us a child. The big picture is that we do not just want a 'baby' to oohh and awww over (even though that has to be amazing), but our passion is to raise up sons and/or daughters of the King, that would be a light to this world, and stout-hearted warriors for our God in the coming generation. We know it will be by Christ's power, His Word, and your help and prayers ;) that this will be accomplished.

Thank you so much for your faithful support and intercession! Love you all!

"But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all Your deeds." Psalm 73:28

You know... God's ultimate purpose is not to bring us a baby -- It is for Him to be glorified -- and to draw me into Christ's likeness and help me to see Him for Who He truly is -- that we may truly know Him... and make Him known. He will do whatever means necessary to bring us to this revelation of who He really is... the Nature of God. As John Piper always says, "God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in Him."
May we be reminded of this Truth today. The lack of a child is not the lack of His provision. He has provided everything we need for right now, without children. He MUST be the fulfillment of our longing souls, or else we shall never be satisfied...even when children come.
