To Texas Fertility Center we go!!! 9-30-08

Greetings prayer warriors! It’s been a while hasn’t it? I’ll try to make this an abbreviated version ;) As you know, our last IUI (#5) in conjunction with the Clomid and Ovidrel Injection, with Dr. Doke, was not successful (back in May-June). It’s been a beautifully painful summer. That sounds like an oxymoron, huh? Well, it really has. Deeper depths full of rich Truths that we wouldn’t trade for anything. Many things have tested our endurance, but God’s grace has given us a second wind for this mile 19 ... After much patience and prayer, we felt that the definite next step was to be a consultation with a specialist at the Texas Fertility Center in Austin. We met with Dr. Hansard last Wednesday and loved her! She’s a sharp cookie (as all those doctors are) – they obviously specialize in infertility and are working with all kinds of infertility factors, complications, surgeries and procedures day in and day out. We had hoped that the less expensive and somewhat lesser invasive would work (like an IUI isn’t invasive? Ha!), as we were led to believe by doctors that it would. However, that wasn’t quite the case, so here we go!
Basically, Dr. Hansard felt that we definitely needed to do a laparoscopy to check things out and she suspects that she will most likely find something else (other than our obvious ovulation disorder). We have done and will do more bloodwork (I’m getting this bloodwork thing down – I think I’m about to start drawing my own blood J– nothing like conquering your fears than to hit them head on, eh? I was one of those people who hated needles and couldn’t stand getting my blood drawn – that probably seems kind of funny to those of you who know me well with my soccer/sports past and all the abuse my body has taken ;) ha! What’s a little needle compared to a corn-fed cornhusker coming at ya 90 mph cleats up?!)
The Clomid rounds thus far have been “less than perfect” as Dr. Hansard would say (Rrrr!!!), but my ovaries did respond and try to produce follicles. So we are going to do a round of Clomid, starting soon, and then b/t day 6-12 of this cycle do the laparoscopy. This way she can see exactly what’s going on with my ovaries, and check for any other problems. If she finds something else and it’s mild (like mild endometriosis for example), then she’ll take care of it best she can, and we’ll proceed with a “perfect” round of Clomid and IUI. If she finds something in surgery that is more than mild (severe endo, etc.), then we will most likely scratch the Clomid cycle and move straight to in-vitro. As many of you know who have had endometriosis, or who know others that have, when you clean it up in surgery, your best chances of conceiving are that cycle and the next one – thus the reason for doing our laparoscopy in conjunction with Clomid so that we can try to produce some follicles and ovulate during our best chance for conception…
All of this will take place the month of October. We would gratefully appreciate your prayers. We are completely at ease and at peace with everything and totally trusting what the Lord has in this. He has been working on our perspective this season – amazing! He continues to take us deeper in the knowledge of His Character and on the differences between joy and happiness, and what true joy is all about. It is very freeing! We have been ‘living’ each day instead of putting off things till ‘this’ happens or ‘that’ happens. As Paul Sailhamer said, “Joy is that deep settled confidence that God is in control of every area of my life.” I’m so glad He is for I would have had us to get pregnant 3 years ago and would have missed out on some of the biggest blessings of my life! His goodness and mercy have followed me ALL the days of my life – and will continue.
Instead of taking off on a page, or two, or four ;) long heart note(s), I’ll close with a thank you to all of you from the bottom of our hearts. Your encouragement, prayers, and support have been unbelievable! We look forward to sharing the next update- we’ll know more after the laparoscopy. Until then, bask in His Glory as bright as the noonday sun, dwell in His protection for only in Him is true security, and rest in His Sovereignty that works for our good, out of His everlasting, unconditional love.

O Lord my God, I will give You thanks forever.” Psalm 30:11-12
